2011-03-26 Calçotada, Castle Tour & Wine Tasting
We heartily celebrated in March one of our favorite annual Catalan traditions – the Calçotada! - and we all had a wonderful time!
This year we headed to Milmanda Castle in the Poblet Valley in the Conca de Barberà. This area used to be known as New Catalonia as it was land won back from Muslim rule. Milmanda belonged to a network of castles established to provide security to the Catholics who had colonized the land taken over.
Our tour of Milmanda Castle was followed by a wine tasting – of course! We sampled three Torres wines - San Valentín (white), Atrium Chardonnay (white) and Ibéricos (red). Then it was off to the famous calçotada feast!
